Dr. Gregory S. Sayuk | MD, MPH, AGAF

Gregory S. Sayuk MD, MPH is a Professor of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology, and Professor, Department of Psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He completed his medical school training at the University of Texas in Houston and his Internal Medicine Residency training and Gastroenterology fellowship at Washington University. Additionally, Dr. Sayuk holds a Master’s degree in Public Health from Saint Louis University. He has been named as a Top Doctor® in Gastroenterology, and has published over 120 scientific papers and book chapters, and is an internationally-recognized expert in GI disorders. He is a Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association and the Rome Foundation.

Dr. Sayuk’s clinical and research interests are primarily in disorders of gut-brain interaction (DGBI), such as irritable bowel syndrome and functional dyspepsia. His work is focused on the influence of non-GI pain (fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, migraines) and psychiatric comorbidities (stress, depression, and anxiety) on DGBI symptom expression and treatment responses. Dr. Sayuk recognizes the important role of herbal and neutraceutical approaches to bowel symptom management, and integrates these options into his treatment recommendations. Dr. Sayuk is a Supporter-Member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians. He approaches each patient as a unique individual, and develops a tailored, personalized treatment strategy to optimize their bowel function. He hopes to bring similar options to bowel symptom sufferers through the Simplemynt program.

Dr. Jill E. Elwing | MD

Jill E. Elwing, MD graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia Medical School and completed her Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology training at Washington University in St. Louis.  She is in clinical practice as a gastroenterologist with an academic appointment at Washington University as an Associate Professor of Medicine. She has been named as a Top Doctor® in Gastroenterology. Her interests focus on functional bowel disorders (disorders of gut-brain interaction) clinically and from a research perspective over the past two decades. Dr. Elwing is also a leader in colorectal cancer prevention research and serves as an authority in nutrition support at her hospital. Dr. Elwing works with a variety of patients, from inflammatory bowel to functional bowel disease, employing conventional and alternative therapies through participation in a whole health program, offering comprehensive symptom management including acupuncture, mindfulness, functional nutrition, yoga, and healing touch. Current research efforts include treatment of functional disorders through the use of Eastern non-traditional approaches, colorectal cancer risk factors and prevention, and liver impacts of metabolic syndrome.  During their time in training Drs. Sayuk and Elwing collaborated through their research focused on functional GI disease. Since then, Drs. Elwing and Sayuk have collaborated in many clinical and research initiatives with an effort to improve the lives of patients with GI disorders.  Natural and alternative medicines are an essential part of her treatment recommendations, and she implements whole health approaches to achieving wellness for herself, her family, and her patients. Dr. Elwing grew up on a farm and continues to be an avid gardener, and proponent sustainable agriculture.
